MasterChef: The Professionals 2013 winner Steven Edwards will open the new kitchen and dining room at The Horder Centre in Crowborough on September 15.
Steven, who won the coveted title in the BBC’s most recent sixth series, will create a brand new signature dish for the orthopaedic centre’s new Autumn/Winter menu which he will serve to patients before holding a “scone masterclass”. A traditional cream tea will then be served to guests in the afternoon.
The new kitchen and dining room at The Horder Centre, which is run by charity Horder Healthcare, has been specially designed for patients and staff to create a light and natural environment in keeping with the centre’s unique location on the edge of Ashdown Forest.
The Horder Centre, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, prepares and cooks every meal fresh on site and works with seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. It has its own herb garden and is currently working towards gaining Soil Association Accreditation, a guarantee which means all produce used in food preparation meets the highest standards of sustainability and quality.
Guy Heasman, Hotel Services Manager, for Horder Healthcare, said: “We are delighted that Steven is going to be opening our new facility and working with our catering team to create a new signature dish. Our philosophy when we create food is that fresh, appealing dishes helps the wellbeing of our patients and speeds up their recovery.”
The Horder Centre’s nutritious philosophy is backed by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt who recently announced that all providers of NHS care will have to adhere to new standards where food is concerned, including the quality and choice of food.
Steven Edwards is head chef of the Camellia Restaurant at South Lodge in Horsham. He was awarded the Masterchef title at the end of last year by double Michelin star chef Michel Roux jr, La Gavroche chef Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace.
The Horder Centre is an award winning centre of excellence for orthopaedic cate that provides elective orthopaedics, pain management and musculoskeletal services (MSK) and wellness advice.
Photographers are welcome to attend the opening of the kitchen and dining room on Monday September 15th at 3pm.
