East Grinstead Town Mayor Cllr Bob Mainstone officially cut the ribbon at an opening ceremony on Thursday 9th August after a welcome speech by Horder Healthcare Operations Director, and acting Chief Executive, Richard Bentley.
Richard said: “We are delighted to be opening this new theatre which is just the beginning of our refurbishment programme. The McIndoe Centre has a very proud history and Horder Healthcare is very pleased to be part of that at this exciting time. This new theatre means we can offer an increased range of surgical procedures to our patients and enhance their experience with us.”
The event was attended by local Town and Mid Sussex District Councillors including Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council, Cllr Peter Reed, and Cabinet Member for Health & Community, Mid Sussex District Council, Cllr Norman Webster. Councillors and guests were then given a tour of the new theatre, installed by Medical Air Technology (MAT), which features the latest technology including MAT’s new screenless ultra-clean ventilation canopy to prevent infection during surgery.
Horder Healthcare continues its £8 million refurbishment programme of The McIndoe Centre with the opening of a new operating theatre. The new theatre means that orthopaedic surgery, and other surgical procedures, will now be introduced at The McIndoe Centre in addition to the cosmetic and reconstructive surgery for which it is world famous. The state-of-the-art theatre is one of the first steps in an ambitious project that includes three new theatres and a six bed recovery area, due for completion by the end of this year. A brand new X-ray suite has already been installed and other plans include upgrading parts of the Centre’s infrastructure and treatment rooms, refurbishing all ward bedrooms and providing a new outpatient area.
This refurbishment forms part of the organisation’s strategic vision to extend its reach and to identify healthcare needs within communities and work collaboratively with others to provide those services.
