The Horder Centre highlighted as ‘outstanding’ in major CQC report

The Horder Centre has been highlighted as ‘outstanding’ in the Care Quality Commission’s first comprehensive review of independent acute hospitals in England.

The CQC’s 40-page report, published on April 11, is an analysis of quality and safety of care given by 206 independent hospitals in England.

The Horder Centre, an orthopaedic hospital in Crowborough, which is run by the charity Horder Healthcare, was one of 16 (8%) hospitals rated as outstanding and one of only two highlighted at this level in the report.

The report focused on:

  • The value of caring that was embedded throughout the organisation and was part of “The Horder Way” which all staff were asked to sign up to as part of their induction
  • The hospital’s therapeutic environment, created after an eight-year refurbishment and redevelopment programme, that aided patient recovery
  • Outstanding practice in surgery including being the first hospital to submit data to the Private Health Information Network (PHIN), an independent not-for-profit organisation that publishes data to help patients make informed decisions

CQC Report

‘The state of care in independent acute hospitals’

This publication presents findings from Care Quality Commission programme of inspections of independent acute hospitals.

Horder Healthcare Chief Executive Dr Richard Tyler said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be featured by name as outstanding in this first ever review of independent acute hospitals in England, published by the CQC.

“Our rating was a result of the hard work and dedication of an entire team whose aim is to ensure the best possible care for every one of our patients during their entire journey with us. To be highlighted like this is testament to them all, but we are not complacent and constantly strive to improve to make that patient journey even better.”

Outstanding Orthopaedics

The Horder Centre is nationally recognised for its level of surgical expertise, patient satisfaction and therapeutic hospital environment.

The Horder Centre treats patients for all types of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.  It is one of the largest single-site orthopaedic centres in the country, undertaking over 2000 hip and knee replacements every year.
