ESCAPE Knee class

What is the ESCAPE Knee class?

The ESCAPE knee class (Enabling Self-management and Coping with Arthritic knee Pain through Exercise) is a rehabilitation programme designed for individuals suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee. The class runs over a six week period and it consists of education and exercise to help individuals manage their osteoarthritis more effectively.

Aims of the class

  •     To teach you appropriate and beneficial exercises
  •     To provide you with the skills to manage your pain more effectively
  •     To encourage you to develop an active lifestyle

Who can attend the class?

  •     Anybody with arthritis of the knee who has not already had a knee replacement
  •     Individuals who are not ready for surgery
  •     All levels welcome, exercises are tailored to the individual

Structure of the class

  •     30 minute presentation and discussion on one of the topics below
  •     An hour is spent completing a supervised exercise circuit in our state of the art new gym
  •     The class is run by one of our experienced, chartered physiotherapists

  •     Goal setting and action plans
  •     Drug management
  •     Pacing and activity rest cycles
  •     Managing flare ups of pain
  •     Relaxation and deep breathing techniques
  •     Diet and healthy eating
  •     Long term adherence and pursuing activities within the community
