Is it normal to have disturbed nights after a knee replacement?

Yes, very few people sleep through the night for six weeks or more after the operation. As with sitting, lying down for a period of time will cause you to stiffen up and the discomfort will then wake you up. Many people will still be sleeping on their backs which may not be their normal sleeping position and this can result in sleep patterns being disturbed.  It is fine to sleep on your side when you feel able to.
