What are the key aspects of Clinical Research?
- Enhancing health and care.
- The majority of participants are patients.
- Research is typically conducted in hospitals, GP surgeries, or community settings.
- Studies may involve asking patients to try new treatments, provide information about their current care, or test medical devices. The aim is to gather insights into specific experiences, therapies, or conditions, and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments (HRA, 2022).
We are committed to using evidence-based research and continuous improvement to achieve several important goals:
- Improve patient outcomes
- Ensure that staff and service users are well-informed
- Apply theory in practical ways that are effective
- Evaluate and enhance our practices
This pledge aligns with our core value of providing high-quality care while continually striving for improvement. Clinical research connects us with individuals, allowing us to better understand treatments, medical conditions, and illnesses (HRA, 2022).
Why Research Matters?
Research is beneficial to everyone, and everyone can participate in some way. This involvement keeps both staff and service users informed about the latest findings, offers opportunities to join research trials, and creates valuable experiences that can enhance future treatments and clinical practices.
A recent study by Boaz et al. (2024) investigated whether patient care improves when healthcare organisations and their staff engage in research. The results provide strong evidence that research-active organisations positively influence patient outcomes, a phenomenon known as the "dose effect." Furthermore, Downing et al. (2015) found that higher participation in research correlates with improved outcomes.
Therefore, by providing regular opportunities for our staff and the individuals we serve to engage with research, we can enhance the quality of services overall.

TRiO Study
