Fundraising Achievements

The Horder Centre was delighted to welcome a 12-strong team of corporate volunteers from Openreach as part of our fundraising Spring Appeal. The focus was to improve the outside spaces for patients including our therapeutic gardens which have been purposefully designed to assist recovery after surgery.

Over £5000 was raised by our kind donors, and is being spent on providing a shaded area in the garden to allow patients more protection from the sun when exercising.

We would like to say a big “thank you” to our supporters and donors who helped raise £15,000 for the 2017 appeal. The money raised has been spent on a variety of items for our two specialist hospitals –The Horder Centre in Crowborough and The McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead. We believe the new items will make a big difference to enhance patients experience and wellbeing.

The items included:

• A handheld device that illuminates veins making them easier to see for taking blood.
• A machine that is used after knee replacement surgery to allow continuous movement and ensure the best outcome after surgery.
• A kit for measuring blood glucose in the blood.
• Equipment for The Butterfly Scheme, which provides a system of hospital care for people living with dementia.

After raising a fantastic £25,000, we received the keys to a new all-terrain patient transport vehicle. We identified the need for a user-friendly easy access all-terrain vehicle to help with patient transport all year round but crucially in harsh or extreme weather conditions. The health and wellbeing of our patients is of utmost priority and ensuring that they are able to access our services is vitally important.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us to raise the money that has enabled us to buy this vehicle. It now means we can help our more dependent patients, who don’t have their own transport, access our services in all weather conditions, throughout the South East.

The Capital Redevelopment Project continued throughout 2013 and into 2014. With the ongoing support from our donors, we enhanced The Horder Centre further. Work on phase three included; a new dining room for patients and staff, bedroom upgrades to en suite single bedrooms and a new diagnostics suite, including x-ray and MRI facilities.

During 2012, we completed the second phase of the ambitious redevelopment project with remarkable results.  Following on from our highly successful phase one, phase two created a new day unit and new level access to our therapeutic gardens.

A new Day Unit Suite was built that incorporated an Admissions Unit and Pre Admissions Clinic. The new suite has created a customised space for day-care patients and has greatly enhanced the way we now welcome and admit patients arriving for procedures. The unit now includes single-sex accommodation, private rooms for consultations/clinical checks, recovery bays for day surgery patients and a corridor and lift to transfer day patients.

Two enclosed, courtyard gardens were also created from overgrown scrubland. Overlooked by patient bedrooms, the gardens contribute to a more healing environment at our centre in Crowborough. The gardens include quiet seating areas, level walking surfaces and are specially designed to accommodate rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions in a relaxing environment.

The building for a future Appeal‘s fundraising efforts raised over £400,000! Established in 2010, Horder Healthcare’s Capital Redevelopment Programme was highly successful in enhancing the patient experience. Our fundraising efforts were instrumental to the project and outstanding results have been achieved through our ‘Building for the Future’ appeal.
