Our volunteers mean the world to us and our patients

Our volunteers are invaluable to our organisation and are involved in many aspects of the services we provide from looking after patients in the ward to assisting us with data entry and administration to helping our ever busy support teams. We simply could not deliver our unique patient care without them and we are so grateful for every minute they give us.

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and develop new skills, whether you are thinking about a possible new career, wanting to explore an interest or are just looking to give a bit of time to your community. We always need new volunteers to join our team and you could be just the person we are looking for!

As a charity, everything we do revolves around our values and we are proud of our warm and caring environment. We like our volunteers to be people orientated, enjoy social interaction and working as a team.

Our vision and values

Current opportunities

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with:

  • IT administration and data entry
  • Comfort rounds in the ward
  • Assistance with gardening

Our volunteers do not require any qualifications and any necessary training will be given. All prospective volunteers are invited to come and meet Claire for an informal chat to discuss the type of volunteering work they would like to do and to ensure that the roles on offer are a good match for their skills. All volunteers must be 16 or over and must have a Disclosure Barring Service check (DBS) which we will arrange.

Student volunteers

We are very proud that we are able to offer students a volunteer experience that will benefit them in their choice of career in medicine or nursing. Students that volunteer with us have the chance to experience a clinical environment and see the workings of a hospital and they will also get the opportunity to interact with patients and staff including consultants and nurses.

Patient Journey Support

The Patient Journey Support role involves offering support and assistance to our patients. This can mean chatting to them about their operation and recovery, helping to unpack belongings and ensuring they are comfortable in their room. All these things make a great deal of difference to how our patients feel prior to surgery.

We are happy to consider volunteers aged 16 or over but you must have a mature attitude to fit the role. We try to be as flexible as we can around school and college life offering times in the evenings and at weekends, but we would ask that you are sure you can commit to a volunteer role with us before you apply.

Please contact us at volunteers@horder.co.uk to discuss opportunities further.

Professional volunteers

Could your professional skills help shape the future of Horder Healthcare?

Can you offer expert advice and assistance in a volunteer capacity to help support our corporate services work towards advancing health? We are always grateful to those who can use their professional experience to offer advice and volunteer with us. If you would like to discuss professional volunteering opportunities in more detail or you would like to apply, please contact us at volunteers@horder.co.uk.

All volunteers based at a Horder Healthcare site will be subject to a DBS Check.

Benefits for volunteers

We offer our volunteers the following benefits (depending on location):

  • Travel expenses paid
  • Free lunch
  • Free parking onsite
  • Free use of the onsite gym and discounted fitness classes

Applying for a volunteering role

Our HR team look after all of our volunteers and are the initial point of contact for new starters. Once volunteers are established in their roles they are then fully supported by the manager of the department they are volunteering in. The HR department continues to meet with volunteers on a regular basis to ensure everything is running smoothly and answer any questions they have.

If you are interested in a volunteering role at Horder Healthcare we would love to hear from you. Please contact us at volunteers@horder.co.uk.
